Youth Shooters
Support for Shooting Sports
Whether you are a youth interested in shooting sports, a parent of a youth who is or might be interested, or a youth shooting sports coach looking for more information and resources, MYSSA is here to serve you. Shooting sports such as trap, skeet, sporting clays, handgun, rifle, air rifle and archery target shooting all help Missouri youth to learn and grow. Participation in activities such as shooting sports support youth in making friends, building confidence and having fun while developing team and leadership skills.
Team shooting sports teaches kids accountability — for themselves, their equipment and their team. It’s an opportunity to learn new shooting skills or improve the skills you already have. No matter your path to shooting sports, this is your chance to further yourself both in shooting and in life.
The MYSSA Mission
The mission of the Missouri Youth Sport Shooting Alliance is to introduce, promote and facilitate safe shooting sports to Missouri youth, providing unique opportunities for student athletes across the state to improve their skills through participation in a variety of team-based programs.
Opportunities for Youth in Sport Shooting
For youth who are interested in sport shooting or even already involved in sport shooting just not in a team setting yet, the opportunities for growth are endless. Shooting sports as a team activity pair ideally with an academic setting in a high school. This gives students a way to build relationships and even friendships with their teammates. It also provides leadership development as team members organize their teammates, events, fundraising and more.
Furthermore, participating and excelling as part of a sport shooting team can lead to ways to support one’s education. Many colleges have sport shooting teams and some offer scholarships for team members. Not only does this help to fund college, but joining a team is one way new students can find their place in a school.
