For most youth shooters the season has come to an end.  Congratulations to all of you that did well and participated in the Fall Classic, Spring Break Ems, and the Paul Larsen State Shoot.  To all of you seniors, be sure to check out our Higher Education page for future opportunities.

To the rest of you, while your season has ended a new one will begin soon enough.  It stands to reason you might want to think about getting yourself ready.  Begin, as I have always said with some goals.  Make these measureable and attainable.  Here are a few I might suggest:

  1. Read something about trap shooting each week
  2. Do a set number of gun mounts each week
  3. Head to the range a set number of times
  4. Determine how many practice targets you will accomplish each week and practice
  5. Exercise at least twice a week
  6. Practice breathing and concentration at least once a week
  7. Set a donation goal for your team to make to your Midway USA Foundation account
  8. Help your team recruit new shooters
  9. Talk to your coach at least once a month over the summer
  10. Practice your pre-shot routine every day

Trap shooting requires muscle memory and leaving your gun in the case all summer does little to keep you in tune.  The above items are just a start, so take some time to think of others and discuss them with your parents, coach and team.

While I am on this idea of goals think about meeting with your team and setting team goals.  What do you as a team want to accomplish?  What will you be satisfied with in the end?  Remember goals should be measurable and attainable.
