The Mid-America Trap Academy registration opened December 1, 2022. Beginning in 2014, this year marks the 9th year of the trap academy. Each year the academy offers instruction to youth shooters, coaches and parents. This is an intensive clinic offered for one day to each participant across a three-day schedule on June 7, 8 and 9, 2023 at Prairie Grove Shotgun Sports in Columbia, MO. Shells and targets are provided with registration at $125.
Mark Brownlee, Tyler Schwab, Karla Harrison and David Vaught teach the clinics. Each of these instructors has extensive time working with youth shooters, coaches, and parents. Over the years we have produced state champions, 4-H champions and national youth champions. The success of youth shooters is our goal regardless of age or experience. Here are a few comments:
“A note to commend the academy on such a super job in running the camp with shooters from all around the area, and making it an unforgettable experience for our son. He not only improved his shooting skills, he also made lifelong memories and friends!”
“I had been struggling with dropping a bird or two per box. The Academy was able to help me to pick up those few birds and I was able to shoot my first 100 straight. They also helped me step up my mental game that I was lacking. It was an amazing experience to be able to participate in the Academy and the friendships that were developed from the Academy.”
“My son, attended the Mid-America Trap Academy in June of 2018. He had been shooting trap, skeet and sporting clays for just a year at that time and was on a high school team. The camp was an absolutely pivotal moment in his shooting career. Extremely skilled adults educated the young athletes in all aspects of this sport. He went on to attend his first SCTP Nationals in Marengo, Ohio with his high school team in late July that year. The event had over 2200 competitors. He personally won 1st place in Junior Varsity Handicap and won last man standing event out of 550+ competitors. In August, of that year he competed in his first Grand America in Sparta, Illinois. He took champion of a Handicap and Doubles event and runner up of another. All of these accomplishments came in large part from the confidence and knowledge he gained from the camp and the belief and support of Dr. Vaught and staff. Our son is currently attending Fort Hays State University majoring in agriculture and shooting on their team. He maintains a strong bond with many of those he met at camp and Dr. Vaught has provided much guidance throughout his shooting journey. We feel beyond blessed to have benefited from the camp.”
“I attended the academy in 2017 and had a great time and met a lot of nice people that I still talk to today! The staff and accommodations were great! I was having trouble getting above 20 birds before the academy, but after I could hit 22-23 birds consistently. It’s a great opportunity for you to develop skills that will help you for a long time.”
“My Son, attended the Mid-America Trap Academy in June 2019. Since that time, he has achieved All American for 2 years, All Zone this year and won numerous other shoots and competition. The skills and techniques that he obtained from attending this program exceeded my greatest expectations. He not only learned shooting skills, but mental and emotional techniques that will condition through every aspect of life. He was asked to assist this year with the academy, which was a great honor for him. It not only allowed him to meet new and upcoming shooters, but to share everything he has learned from the academy and explain how it pertained to his shooting career. My son is currently shooting at college on a Trap Shooting Scholarship. I would recommend this program to any shooter that is wanting to further their career, or just hone their skills in shooting.”
